Social Work Examination Services (SWES) Individual Practice Test 2026 – The All-in-One Guide to Exam Success!

Ego strength refers to an individual's ability to maintain a sense of self and cope with challenges, which can certainly influence a person's overall functioning and mental health. However, it is not a direct measurement of motivation to engage in therapy or achieve personal change.

In contrast, willingness to engage in therapy directly assesses a client's readiness to participate in the therapeutic process, making it a clear indicator of motivation. Previous treatment experiences can also offer insights into a client's motivation, as their prior encounters with therapy may shape their current willingness and commitment. Setting personal goals is a tangible expression of motivation, reflecting a desire for change and forward movement in a client's life. Thus, while ego strength is an important aspect of a person's psychological makeup, it does not serve as a direct measure of motivation in the context of therapy.
